Police to intensify school area surveillance for student safety

Inspector-General of Police directs enhanced patrols around schools nationwide following PM’s recommendation to address security concerns.

KUALA LUMPUR: Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail has directed all state police chiefs to enhance patrols and surveillance around school areas.

This directive aims to ensure the safety of students, teachers, and the entire educational community.

The enhanced security measures include regular patrols by the patrol unit, criminal intelligence teams, and special monitoring units.

These patrols will safeguard schools and identify any potential threats or activities that could disrupt public order.

Mohd Khalid stated that patrol car units may conduct brief patrols ranging from one to five minutes around school areas when necessary.

This security assessment approach helps maintain constant vigilance over school premises.

He explained that this move aligns with the government’s policy to reinforce security in schools nationwide.

The initiative follows Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s recommendation to station police officers at schools.

Mohd Khalid emphasized that these enhanced patrols aim to ensure both physical security and public confidence.

The police seek to position themselves as strategic partners within the educational community through this initiative.

Yesterday, Anwar announced government approval for continued police deployment at school premises.

This decision addresses growing concerns about bullying, abuse, and rising crime in educational institutions.
