A 32-year-old security guard received five years in prison and one stroke of the cane for possessing a machete without a permit at a condominium.
KUALA LUMPUR: A security guard has been sentenced to five years in prison and one stroke of the cane for unlawful possession of a machete.
Sessions Court Judge Mazuliana Abdul Rashid handed down the sentence to 32-year-old Ahmad Jazlan Muhammad Ariff after he pleaded guilty.
The offence occurred at 5.30 am yesterday in front of the main entrance of a condominium on Jalan Tun Sambanthan.
Ahmad Jazlan was charged under Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958.
The charge carries a mandatory penalty of five to 10 years imprisonment with whipping upon conviction.
According to case facts, police received a report about a suspect carrying a machete and found the weapon hidden under a table.
The court ordered the prison sentence to begin from the date of his arrest yesterday.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Noor Syafina Mohd Radzuan prosecuted the case while the accused was unrepresented. – Bernama
