KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his wife Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail hosted a Gala Dinner for ASEAN leaders and their spouses tonight.
The event celebrated friendship, unity, and cultural diversity during the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Meetings at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.
This gathering served as a platform for cultural diplomacy reflecting the inclusive and united spirit of the ASEAN community.
Leaders and their spouses wore garments made from Tenun Pahang Diraja, a royal handwoven fabric crafted by inmates at Bentong Prison in Pahang.
Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva received a special celebration for his 80th birthday during the dinner.
The visibly moved Brazilian leader joined Anwar in cutting his birthday cake while Trupe De DomMarina performed the “Happy Birthday” song.
Renowned Malaysian singers Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza, Datuk M. Nasir, and Dayang Nurfaizah delivered spectacular performances themed around regional cultural diversity.
The performances highlighted unique cultures and identities of ASEAN member states through several segments.
Sand artist Bernice Wong from Penang provided visual performances depicting iconic regional monuments set to orchestral music. – Bernama
