Drugs: Over 1,000 individuals nabbed in integrated border operations

KOTA BHARU: Police arrested 1,072 individuals for various drug offences in integrated border operations conducted from April 1 until yesterday in Kelantan.

Kelantan police chief Datuk Muhamad Zaki Harun (pix) said all those apprehended were aged between 17 and 59 comprising 1,051 men and 21 women including four civil servants.

He said the integrated operations were aimed at curbing the smuggling and abuse of drugs from a neighbouring country through the border into the country.

According to him, the focus of the operation is on identifying target areas which are active pot areas or drug dens for such activities.

“All of them are being investigated under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, the Dangerous Drugs (Special Preventive Measures) Act 1985 and the Poisons Act 1952,“ he said in a statement today.

Following that, various types of drugs were seized in the operation, estimated to be worth RM242,193.

“Among those confiscated were 1,121.23 grammes (g) of horse pills, heroin ( 62.29 g), ganja (130.5 g), syabu (1.17 g) and psychotropic pills (333.07 g),“ he said.

Muhamad Zaki said the amount of drugs confiscated could be used by 15,863 drug addicts.

Besides, various properties were also seized consisting of vehicles and money in bank accounts estimated to be worth RM42,338 and the cases weres investigated under the Dangerous Drugs (Forfeiture of Property) Act 1988.

He said that Kelantan police will continue to crack down on drug trafficking and abuse in the state and hope that the community will continue to provide information related to such activities.
