Key parliamentary questions today focus on matriculation programme management, campus safety, and heritage preservation, alongside food security and legislative debates.

KUALA LUMPUR: The management of the Matriculation Programme and campus safety are set for scrutiny in the Dewan Rakyat today.

According to the Order Paper, Abdul Latiff Abdul Rahman (PN-Kuala Krai) will question the proposed transfer of the programme’s management from the Education Ministry to the Higher Education Ministry.

He seeks clarification on whether the move would eliminate bureaucratic overlap, reduce operational costs, and guarantee university intake quality without affecting existing quotas.

Khairil Nizam Khirudin (PN-Jerantut) will ask the Higher Education Minister for statistics on fatal incidents involving higher education institution students over the past five years.

He will also inquire about the ministry’s short, medium, and long-term plans to enhance campus safety.

Wan Razali Wan Nor (PN-Kuantan) will query the National Unity Minister on measures to address a shortage of curatorial experts and heritage researchers.

This shortage is reportedly hindering efforts to preserve national artefacts and historical documents.

Zakri Hassan (PN-Kangar) will ask the Agriculture and Food Security Minister about steps to ensure food supply continuity during disasters and climate change events.

Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham (PH-Beruas) will query the same minister on government actions regarding Thailand’s fish exports entering the Malaysian market.

He will seek clarification on why Malaysian fish exports to Thailand remain limited.

Following the question-and-answer session, the house will proceed with legislative business.

Members will debate the second reading of the Environmental Quality (Amendment) Bill 2026 and the Supplementary Supply (2025) Bill 2026.
