Johor Barisan Nasional says winning over 40 state seats is a mandate to serve all Johoreans and pursue the Maju Johor agenda.
JOHOR BAHRU: Johor Barisan Nasional (BN) has described its victory in winning more than 40 state seats in the 16th Johor state election as a strong mandate for the coalition to continue serving the rakyat and addressing issues affecting the state.
Johor BN chairman Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said the results of the election represented a great responsibility, which the coalition gladly accepted with gratitude and humility.
“Alhamdulillah, Johor BN has won more than 40 seats today. On behalf of the Johor BN leadership, I would like to express my deepest appreciation to Bangsa Johor for the overwhelming mandate they have given us.
“This strong mandate strengthens our resolve to continue serving the people, engaging with the rakyat and resolving their concerns more effectively. That is our commitment following the trust placed in us,” he told a press conference at the BN operations centre today.
Also present were BN chairman and UMNO president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, UMNO vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, UMNO secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, and UMNO Supreme Council members Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan and Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein.
Onn Hafiz said the victory was achieved through the grace of God and the dedication and sacrifices of the party machinery throughout the election campaign.
With the consent of the Sultan of Johor and the Regent of Johor, he said the state government would continue pursuing the Maju Johor agenda to improve the well-being of the people.
He also reminded the newly elected BN representatives that the victory came with a significant responsibility to serve all Johoreans regardless of race or political affiliation.
“To all our newly elected representatives, you now have a great responsibility. The mandate entrusted to you is to serve all Bangsa Johor, whether they supported us or not.
“We will serve every Johorean – Malays, Chinese, Indians, Orang Asli and the entire Bangsa Johor.
“Let us close ranks and move forward together. The election is over. Now is the time to shoulder the responsibility of building the Johor we all aspire to,” he said.
Based on unofficial results, BN has secured the simple majority of 29 seats required to form the new Johor state government and has won more than 40 seats at press time.
