No sugar supply disruption despite MSM’s plans to export gula super to Singapore – Johor KPDN

JOHOR BAHRU: The Johor branch of the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) will ensure no disruption in the state’s sugar supply, following MSM Malaysia Holdings Bhd’s upcoming export of premium white sugar brand, Gula Super to Singapore next year.

Its director Lilis Saslinda Pornomo expressed confidence that there would be no supply issues, as the government, through KPDN, consistently prioritises the people’s needs.

“KPDN is committed to safeguarding the interests and needs of the local population and we will ensure that the sugar export will not lead to any disruptions in the supply chain within Johor,” she told reporters when met at Jaya Grocer, Austin Heights here, today.

MSM group chief executive officer Syed Feizal Syed Mohammad recently announced plans to export its newly launched premium white sugar product, Gula Super, to neighbouring countries, specifically Singapore, starting next year and the decision is rooted in the close proximity between MSM’s factory in Johor and the city-state.

Meanwhile, Lilis Saslinda reported that Johor KPDN has recorded 1,277 cases involving various offences and confiscations totaling RM7.21 million from Jan 1 until today.

She highlighted that the collection from compounds and fines alone has reached RM1.06 million.

Most of the cases involve price tag offences, discrepancies between displayed and actual prices, and supply-related issues.

For the Christmas Season Maximum Price Control Scheme (SHMMP) in effect from today until Dec 27, enforcement officers will conduct ongoing inspections and monitoring at key locations, including wet markets and shopping malls selling festive items, she added. – Bernama
