YSB touches and improves lives of those in need

ALOR SETAR: Yayasan Sultanah Bahiyah (YSB) stands out for its philanthropic contribution to society and its focus on community development. Deeply rooted in the legacy of its founder and first Patron Di Raja, the late Tuanku Sultanah Bahiyah Almarhum Tuanku Abdul Rahman, YSB has touched and improved many lives.

The non-governmental charitable organization that focuses on community development was established on Aug 20, 1996. It is now guided by a Board of Trustees led by Tunku Temenggong Kedah Datuk Seri Diraja Tan Sri Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz Almarhum Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah.

YSB general manager Misbah Abdul Hamid said it plays a pivotal role in enhancing the societal fabric of Kedah through a range of initiatives encompassing educational programmes, community development, healthcare services, youth engagement, elderly support and various training programmes.

“YSB actively engages in social work, addressing crucial issues in education, community development, healthcare, youth affairs and elderly care,” she told theSun .

She said the foundation collaborates with other non-governmental organizations and corporate entities to extend financial grants to charitable organizations in Kedah.

“Notably, YSB enjoys tax-exempt status according to section 44(6) Income Tax Act 1967, a privilege that enables the organization to broaden its impact on the local community in Kedah.”

She said the scope of YSB’s welfare projects spans diverse categories, including offering financial assistance to over 25 registered organizations annually.

“The welfare programs help individuals and organizations in need and ease the burden of suffering regardless of religion and race. “We also work closely with the Kedah Social Welfare Department and other welfare organizations to ensure that community programs can be carried out more smoothly.”

Misbah said YSB provides encouragement and an annual grant to charitable organizations that are active in Kedah for them to continue their community work.
