A video which has gone viral and was previously posted by Malaysia Most Viral account on the social media platform X (which has since been removed) depicted a patient leaping out from the sixth floor of the building, before immediately losing consciousness upon impact with the ground.
The incident, as per the statement from South Johor’s Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Raub Selamat, occurred at Hospital Sultan Ismail in Johor Bahru on the evening of Nov 6, around 5:20 pm.
According to initial findings, the victim had disabilities and mental health issues.
The victim sustained severe injuries to the head and body, resulting in their demise.
They were admitted to the hospital on Nov 5 at 12:30 a.m. for surgery on their right knee, which had multiple ligament injuries and vascular problems.
However, the surgical procedure was postponed because the patient had a respiratory tract infection.
As reported by MalayMail, Johor Health Director Dr Mohtar Pungut Ahmad said when discharged, the patient had walked to the sixth floor without the realisation of his family members.
At 5.20pm, witnesses saw the patient standing on the ledge of the building structure on the sixth level before he jumped down. The patient was then immediately attended to and given medical aid.
Raub said police investigations did not reveal any elements of foul play and the case has been classified under sudden death report (SDR).
