KPDN Labuan compounds a fun fair operator for failing to display charges for games, urging compliance with price rules.
LABUAN: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Labuan has compounded a fun fair operator here for failing to display charges for several games offered to visitors.
Its director, Junaidah Arbain, said the action followed an inspection by enforcement officers at the entertainment site on the night of July 1 after the ministry received public complaints.
She said the inspection found the operator had failed to clearly display charges for several games, an offence under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering (Price Marking for Goods and Charges for Services) Order 2020, made under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011 (Act 723).
“Traders and service providers are required to display prices or charges clearly, prominently and in a manner that is easily understood by consumers before any transaction is made.
“Failure to comply with this requirement may affect consumers’ ability to make informed choices and cause confusion during service transactions,” she said in a statement today.
Junaidah said individuals convicted of the offence could face a fine of up to RM50,000 or be compounded according to the provisions under the law, while companies could be fined up to RM100,000.
She said KPDN Labuan would continue to intensify monitoring and inspections from time to time to ensure all traders and service providers comply with the laws enforced by the ministry.
“Firm action will be taken without compromise against any party found violating the regulations,” she said.
Junaidah also urged the public to continue channelling information or complaints to KPDN if they detect any breach of trade and consumer-related laws.
She said public cooperation was important in ensuring a more transparent, fair and ethical business environment in Labuan.
