The Dewan Rakyat passed three bills and debated major constitutional amendments and an auditor’s report in its sixth week, with the PM addressing data centre concerns.
KUALA LUMPUR: Three bills were passed without amendment during the sixth week of the Dewan Rakyat sitting. The bills were the Capitation Grant Bill 2026, the Environmental Quality (Amendment) Bill 2026 and the Supplementary Supply (2025) Bill 2026.
The week also saw the first reading of two significant constitutional amendment bills. The first seeks to limit the Prime Minister’s tenure to 10 years, while the second aims to separate the roles of the Attorney General and the Public Prosecutor.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said tabled both bills. She stated the second reading is scheduled for next week.

The house also debated and approved a motion on the Auditor-General’s Report 1/2026. The report revealed 273 new issues involving financial management and governance at federal and state levels.
Azalina said the debate reflected the government’s commitment to openness and integrity. “The government assures that all remarks and findings in the LKAN will be investigated and corrective actions taken,” she said.
She added that follow-up audits had successfully recovered RM316.68 million for the government as of December 31, 2025. “This debate is not a sign of weakness, but proof that the government has nothing to hide,” she stated.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and other ministers answered various issues raised by MPs. Topics included data centres, US tariffs, Iran-US tensions, and campus student deaths.
Responding to data centre concerns, Anwar explained the government had limited new non-AI data centre entry for nearly two years. This was to reduce pressure on the national energy grid and water supply.
He acknowledged the surge in resource usage from data centre operations. However, he said projections showed Malaysia currently still has the capacity to ensure sufficient supply.
Two Parliamentary Special Select Committees also presented statements. The committees addressed stunted children and strengthening national nutrition policy.
The current Dewan Rakyat meeting began on January 19. It is scheduled to end on March 3.
