Russian forces struck a children’s hospital in Kherson, wounding nine including four children, in what Ukraine calls a “war crime”.
KYIV: A Russian strike on a children’s hospital in southern Ukraine wounded at least nine people, including four children, Ukrainian officials said.
The attack occurred in Kherson, a city Russian forces temporarily occupied in 2022 that still faces regular shelling from Moscow’s troops across the Dnipro river.
Ukraine’s ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets confirmed “the enemy opened fire on a children’s hospital in Kherson”.
“Nine people were wounded – among them four children and three medical workers,” Lubinets said.
City officials published video showing a building with shattered windows and debris strewn across medical equipment with bloodstains visible.
Ukraine’s Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko called the attack “purely terrorism and a grave violation of international humanitarian law”.
Russia has repeatedly hit hospitals and medical facilities during its invasion, though Moscow claims it only targets military sites.
Separate Russian strikes on the Odesa region caused large-scale power cuts affecting around 27,000 households.
Energy company DTEK said “the damage is significant” and repairs “will take time”.
Ukraine maintained its retaliatory campaign with a drone attack killing at least one person and wounding three in Russia’s Belgorod region.
Russia’s defence ministry claimed its troops had advanced on the front line, capturing the village of Vyshneve in Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk region. – AFP
