AS tegas komitmen terhadap Indo-Pasifik, nafi dakwaan hilang kepercayaan

Amerika Syarikat ulangi komitmen kukuh terhadap rantau Indo-Pasifik, kata Setiausaha Perang Pete Hegseth, sambil menafikan dakwaan hilang kepercayaan.

KUALA LUMPUR: Amerika Syarikat (AS) mengulangi komitmen kukuh dan berterusan terhadap rantau Indo-Pasifik, sekali gus menafikan dakwaan negara itu telah kehilangan keyakinan daripada rakan serantau.

Setiausaha Perang AS Pete Hegseth berkata Washington kekal sebagai negara Pasifik dengan kehadiran yang konsisten dan lama di rantau ini, sambil menegaskan kerjasama menerusi ASEAN serta Mesyuarat Menteri-Menteri Pertahanan ASEAN-Plus (ADMM-Plus) terus menjadi satu kebanggaan.

“Kami sentiasa sebagai sebuah negara Pasifik. Kami tidak pernah hilang dari rantau ini dan tidak akan ke mana-mana.

“Saya tidak rasa kami telah kehilangan (kepercayaan). Kami bangga dengan kerjasama yang terjalin dan komitmen bersama melalui rangka kerja ADMM-Plus dan ASEAN,” katanya kepada pemberita di luar Mesyuarat ADMM-Plus di sini hari ini.

Hegseth berkata Amerika Syarikat mempunyai keupayaan nuklear dan menyifatkan ujian senjata nuklear sebagai langkah yang wajar.

Pada Jumaat lepas, Presiden AS Donald Trump menyatakan bahawa ujian senjata nuklear baharu akan dimulakan segera, dengan alasan untuk menyaingi program ujian serupa di negara lain.

Hegseth turut menzahirkan penghargaan kepada Malaysia atas layanan mesra selaku tuan rumah ADMM-Plus, sekali gus menekankan penglibatan berterusan Washington dan sokongan terhadap kerjasama serantau dalam pertahanan serta keselamatan.

ADMM-Plus menghimpunkan negara anggota ASEAN dan lapan rakan dialog termasuk AS, China, Jepun, India, Rusia, Australia, Korea Selatan serta New Zealand bagi memperkukuh kerjasama dan dialog serantau. – Bernama
