French cyclist Charles Coste, the world’s oldest living Olympic gold medallist, has passed away at the age of 101

FRENCH cyclist Charles Coste, who held the title of the world’s oldest living Olympic gold medallist, has died at the age of 101.

French media reported his passing on Sunday, confirming he died last Thursday.

Coste secured his Olympic gold medal in the track cycling team pursuit event at the Games.

He achieved this victory alongside his teammates Pierre Adam, Serge Blusson, and Fernand Decanali.

Coste inherited the title of oldest living Olympic champion following the death of Hungarian gymnast Agnes Keleti in January 2025.

He participated as a torchbearer during the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics.

His cycling career also included a notable victory at the 1949 Grand Prix des Nations.

He won this 140-kilometre time trial by defeating Italian champion Fausto Coppi.

Coppi was a celebrated cyclist who had won both the Tour de France and the Giro d’Italia. – Reuters
