Former minister Waytha Moorthy retracts false statement about PM Anwar and ex-CJ Tengku Maimun, admits error in judicial record claim.
KUALA LUMPUR: Former minister P. Waytha Moorthy has issued a public apology to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for making a false statement about judicial matters.
Waytha admitted he wrongly claimed that Anwar did not extend former Chief Justice Tun Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat’s service due to a prior Court of Appeal ruling involving the prime minister.
The former minister in the Prime Minister’s Department confirmed through official judicial records that Tengku Maimun was never part of any panel in Anwar’s appeal cases.
“I take full responsibility and acknowledge that the statement was untrue and resulted from an honest mistake on my part,” Waytha stated on Facebook.
He offered his sincere apology to Anwar for the factual error and any misunderstanding or negative perception it may have caused.
Waytha also apologised to Tengku Maimun and others affected by his incorrect statement.
He urged anyone who recorded or shared the video containing his false claim to delete the relevant portions.
This request aims to prevent further spread of inaccurate information about the judicial matter. – Bernama
