Penang petrol stations show no violations under BUDI95 subsidy

Penang KPDN confirms no petrol station fraud under BUDI95 initiative, with daily inspections ongoing and monsoon price monitoring in effect

GEORGE TOWN: The Penang Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry has confirmed zero violations at petrol stations since the BUDI MADANI RON95 targeted subsidy began.

Director S. Jegan said daily inspections at over 200 stations have revealed no fraudulent measurements of RON95 petrol.

“To date, we have received 12 complaints related to BUDI95 since last month, and three this month,” he told reporters at Pasar Chowrasta.

He clarified that most complaints involved technical issues or system confusion rather than station misconduct.

Jegan addressed consumer concerns about petrol quantity discrepancies, confirming daily enforcement checks on measuring instruments.

KPDN is also closely monitoring essential goods prices ahead of the Northeast Monsoon season.

He warned traders against exploiting expected supply reductions by excessively raising prices.

“When the monsoon starts, supplies of fish and fresh vegetables may decrease, but demand will rise, leading to a slight price increase,” Jegan said.

KPDN will continue inspecting wet markets, retail outlets, and wholesalers to prevent consumer exploitation.

The 2025/2026 Northeast Monsoon season is expected to begin on Friday, November 13, lasting until March next year.

MetMalaysia forecasts five to seven episodes of continuous heavy rainfall throughout the monsoon period. – Bernama
