Sheila Sharon Steven Kumar charged with obstructing police during Nov 4 traffic stop; bail set at RM6,600.
PETALING JAYA: A suspended policewoman denied charges of obstructing a fellow officer during his official duties at the Kuala Lumpur magistrates’ court on Tuesday.
Sheila Sharon Steven Kumar, widely recognised as “Inspector Sheila,” entered her plea in a loud and firm voice from the dock after magistrate Aina Azahra Arifin read the charge, Kosmo reported.
The 37-year-old arrived at court in handcuffs, which she attempted to conceal with paper, before being escorted into the courtroom dock.
According to the charge sheet, she allegedly obstructed Lance Corporal Malvinderjit Singh Teerath Singh, 37, from Chow Kit police station, while he conducted crime prevention patrol duties between 8.15pm and 8.30pm on November 4.
The incident occurred in front of Restaurant Qazi on Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah in Dang Wangi.
The charge under Section 186 of the Penal Code carries a maximum two-year prison sentence or fine up to RM10,000, or both, upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutor Hench Goh represented the prosecution, while lawyer M.Manoharan appeared for the accused.
The magistrate fixed bail at RM6,600 with one surety and scheduled January 20 for case mention.
The controversy erupted after a viral video showed Sheila berating police officers near a Jalan Ipoh fast food outlet following their detention of a 34-year-old Pakistani national for operating a vehicle without a valid licence.
During the traffic inspection, the suspended officer allegedly told the arresting team they did not know the law, belittled their actions, and claimed they had threatened the foreign national.
