PM Anwar assures RON95 petrol stays at RM1.99 under Budi Madani despite Middle East tensions.

PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has assured Malaysians that the price of RON95 petrol will remain at RM1.99 per litre under the Budi Madani programme, despite volatility in global oil markets caused by escalating conflict in West Asia.

Speaking during a press conference at the Prime Minister’s Office, Anwar said the government’s prudent energy management and Petronas’ efforts to secure sufficient supply have enabled Malaysia to maintain stable fuel prices.

He noted that recent attacks on Iran and the widening regional conflict have disrupted global energy supply routes, particularly shipments through the Strait of Hormuz.

“The tensions stemming from attacks on Iran and the widening regional conflict have disrupted global energy supply routes, particularly shipments passing through the Strait of Hormuz,” he said.

He noted that more than 400 oil tankers and about 3,000 cargo vessels are currently stranded due to the conflict, causing a surge in global oil prices.

Brent crude had peaked at around US$119 (RM467) per barrel on March 9, before easing slightly in recent days.

Despite these challenges, Anwar said Malaysia remains insulated from immediate supply disruptions.

Anwar stressed that Malaysia’s energy security remains intact, and the government is committed to protecting households from sudden price shocks.
