Man remanded seven days over fatal stabbing in Sungai Udang

A 43-year-old man is remanded for seven days after a fatal stabbing in Sungai Udang, Melaka, following a dispute over a borrowed mobile phone

MELAKA: A 43-year-old man has been remanded for seven days in connection with a fatal stabbing in Sungai Udang last night.

Melaka Police chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said the remand order was granted by Magistrate Nur Afiqah Radhiah Zainurin.

Initial investigations revealed the suspect had lent his mobile phone to the victim after the victim’s own phone was damaged.

“The victim allegedly failed to return the borrowed phone, giving various excuses,” Dzulkhairi said in a statement.

The suspect believed the victim had sold the phone to buy drugs.

Their meeting escalated into a fight, during which the suspect allegedly stabbed the victim several times with a machete.

The victim died at the scene from severe injuries to the chest and head.

The suspect fled to a nearby building and attempted to hide in an unlocked vehicle.

He was later apprehended with the assistance of members of the public.

Checks revealed the suspect has several previous records for criminal and drug-related offences.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
