Russian strikes wound 25 across Ukraine overnight

Russian overnight attacks wound 25 in four Ukrainian regions as US-led peace talks stall, with drones and missiles targeting cities and infrastructure.

KYIV: Russian overnight strikes wounded at least 25 people across four Ukrainian regions, officials reported on Tuesday, as US-led peace negotiations to end the conflict have stalled.

In the northeastern city of Sumy, Russian drone attacks wounded 15 people and damaged apartment buildings along with a medical facility, according to the regional governor.

Emergency services released images showing rescue workers extinguishing burning cars and helping evacuate residents from damaged buildings during the night-time assault.

Operations were repeatedly suspended as rescuers had to move to safe locations due to the threat of follow-up attacks.

Three people were wounded in aerial attacks in the northeastern Kharkiv region, with another three injured in the eastern city of Sloviansk.

Four more individuals were wounded in the Dnipropetrovsk region, the local governor announced on social media.

Ukraine’s air force stated that Russia launched two missiles and 143 drones in the barrage, adding that air defence units intercepted one missile and 116 of the drones.

Russia’s invasion, which it initially hoped would quickly topple Ukraine’s leadership, has spiralled into Europe’s deadliest conflict since World War II over more than four years.

The war has killed hundreds of thousands on both sides and displaced millions of people.
