Malaysia launches next-gen 999 emergency system with AI and GPS

New NG MERS 999 system enhances emergency response with AI analytics, GPS tracking and inclusive features for persons with disabilities nationwide

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s emergency communications infrastructure has advanced with the operational launch of the Next Generation Emergency Response Services 999 system.

Telekom Malaysia Berhad developed NG MERS 999 as a fully integrated platform to replace the legacy MERS 999 system.

The new system enhances operational efficiency and speeds up response times at over 800 locations nationwide.

Every emergency call now receives faster, more accurate and more effective support through the upgraded platform.

The enhanced SaveME 999 mobile application allows Malaysians to contact 999 operators via video, text and multimedia alerts.

Persons with disabilities can now access emergency services through multiple digital channels.

Malaysia ranks among the earliest countries to operate fully inclusive digital emergency access nationally.

The integrated platform incorporates AI-powered analytics and geolocation services for real-time decision-making.

SaveME 999 enables the public to send multimedia information with GPS data to emergency responders.

The Responder App provides real-time tracking and coordination between emergency agencies.

TM Group Chief Executive Officer Amar Huzaimi Md Deris said NG MERS 999 represents a leap in digital transformation.

He stated the system uses AI and multi-channel communication for smarter emergency response.

The platform was developed with global partners and aligns with European NG112 standards.

Malaysia has set new benchmarks through Advanced Mobile Location technology deployment.

All five emergency agency platforms are now integrated under the 999 system.

These improvements support TM’s commitment to building a digitally resilient Malaysia.
