Sarawak’s DBOS launches Islamic Banking Window to access the US$5.5 trillion global shariah-compliant finance market, projected to reach US$7.5 trillion by 2028
KUCHING: The Development Bank of Sarawak has launched an Islamic Banking Window to strengthen its financial offerings and support the state’s inclusive development agenda.
Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said this initiative strategically positions Sarawak within the global Islamic financial ecosystem.
“The global Islamic finance sector has experienced remarkable growth in the post-pandemic era,” he said during the DBOS Integrity Day event.
He cited Standard Chartered Bank’s report showing shariah-compliant financial assets surpassed US$5.5 trillion in 2024.
These assets are projected to reach US$7.5 trillion by 2028, creating significant opportunities for Sarawak’s participation.
Abang Johari emphasised this marks a significant step for DBOS in accessing the rapidly expanding global Islamic finance market.
The Islamic Banking Window launch coincided with DBOS Integrity Day, themed “Advancing Sarawak with Integrity”.
This development reinforces Sarawak’s commitment to value-based economic growth through shariah-compliant financial solutions. – Bernama
