Russian forces kill two civilians and wound 19 others in a rocket attack on the town of Dergachi in Ukraine’s Kharkiv region.
KYIV: Russian forces on Monday killed two people and wounded 19 more in a rocket attack in the eastern Ukrainian region of Kharkiv, local authorities said.
The attack on the town of Dergachi killed two men aged 68 and 25 and led to the hospitalisation of 17 people, according to the regional governor Oleg Synegubov, who said that two more were treated at the scene.
Russian forces occupied swathes of the Kharkiv border region when they invaded in 2022, but were pushed back months later in a shock offensive that embarrassed the Kremlin.
Moscow’s invasion, intended to force the swift capitulation of Kyiv, has become the deadliest conflict in Europe since World War II, killing hundreds of thousands on both sides and displacing millions.
Synegubov said a civilian enterprise, warehouses and vehicles were hit in the attack.
Russia and Ukraine have stepped up deadly strikes in recent weeks as US-led efforts to end the war, now in its fifth year, grind to a halt with Washington’s attention diverted to the Middle East.
