Driver rescued by public after steel pillars fell from ECRL construction site onto MRR2 in Batu Caves.

PETALING JAYA: A woman miraculously survived after steel pillars collapsed from an East Coast Rail Link construction site onto her vehicle on the Middle Ring Road 2 earlier today.

The incident occurred near the Gombak toll plaza in Batu Caves, where construction work for the ECRL project is currently underway.

Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar, Assistant Director of Operations for the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department, told New Straits Times that members of the public managed to extract the woman from her crushed vehicle before emergency services arrived at the scene.

The victim, estimated to be in her 40s, was trapped when the steel construction materials fell onto her car as she was driving along the MRR2.

Details regarding the woman’s current medical condition have not been disclosed by authorities.

No other casualties or injuries have been reported in connection with the incident, suggesting the collapse affected only the single vehicle.

The cause of the structural collapse remains under investigation, with authorities expected to examine safety protocols at the ECRL construction site.

The incident raises questions about construction safety measures along major highways where large-scale infrastructure projects are taking place.

The East Coast Rail Link is a major railway project connecting the east and west coasts of Peninsular Malaysia, with construction ongoing at multiple locations along its route.

This incident marks another safety concern for the project, which has seen various challenges during its development phase.

Authorities have not yet commented on whether construction work at the site has been suspended pending investigation into the collapse.
