Sarawak’s RM1 billion project completes upgrades on 85 critically dilapidated schools, benefiting thousands of students across the state.
SIBU: A total of 85 critically dilapidated schools in Sarawak have been successfully completed under the Dilapidated Schools Redevelopment Project, funded by an RM1 billion allocation, benefiting thousands of students across the state.
Sarawak Minister for Education, Innovation, and Talent Development Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn stated that this achievement proves that close cooperation between the Federal Government and the Sarawak Government has successfully accelerated the implementation of school redevelopment projects in a more systematic and quality manner.
“To date, the execution of the RM1 billion project has shown highly encouraging progress, with 85 critically dilapidated schools fully completed and currently utilised by thousands of students throughout Sarawak.
“Each completed project does not merely upgrade infrastructure, but also opens a new chapter for educational development in the state,” he said during his speech at the Launching Ceremony of the Dilapidated Schools Redevelopment Project under the RM1 Billion Allocation at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Dato Penghulu Imban, Sekuau, today.
He added that in the Selangau district, five schools have been redeveloped through the project, namely SK Dato Penghulu Imban, SK Batu 36, SK Dijih, SK Sungai Sepiring, and SK Sangan Iban.
According to him, the provision of these new facilities reflects the government’s continuous commitment to elevating the quality of educational infrastructure, particularly in rural areas, thereby supporting a more conducive teaching and learning environment.
Regarding SK Dato Penghulu Imban, Sagah said that the RM8.4 million project includes the construction of an academic block with 12 classrooms, an administration block, four units of teacher quarters, and restroom facilities.
He added that the project which commenced on October 27th, 2021, was fully completed on August 31st, 2023, and obtained its Certificate of Practical Completion (CPC) on September 25th, 2023.
“These new facilities do not just replace the old, rundown structures, but symbolise the government’s commitment to ensuring rural students enjoy educational facilities on par with schools in urban areas,” he said.
