Police probe Kaamatan festival brawl at KDCA

Police investigate viral brawl clips from Kaamatan festival, with no weapons involved and suspects being identified.

PENAMPANG: The police are conducting further investigations into several viral videos on social media depicting brawls at the Kadazan Dusun Cultural Association (KDCA) near here during the recent Kaamatan Festival celebrations.

Penampang Deputy District Police Chief DSP Erwansyah Abdul Basir said preliminary investigations revealed that the incidents were believed to have stemmed from misunderstandings between several individuals.

He said that the brawls did not involve the use of any weapons and were successfully broken up by bystanders at the scene.

“So far, statements have been taken from several individuals to assist with the investigation,” he said in a statement here today.

Erwansyah said the police are also identifying all individuals involved and tracking down witnesses to the incidents, while the viral video recordings are being closely examined to aid the investigation and further action.

He advised the public not to make any speculations or spread unverified information regarding the incidents, as it could affect the investigation and disrupt public order.

The police also urged anyone with information regarding the incidents to immediately channel it to the nearest police station, he added.
