NG MERS 999 operating normally, isolated incidents handled

NG MERS 999 emergency system is operating normally with isolated incidents handled immediately, as technical reviews confirm normal operations and continued service improvements.

PUTRAJAYA: The Next Generation Malaysian Emergency Response Services 999 System (NG MERS 999) is operating normally following reports of ambulance services received by multiple agencies.

A joint statement from the Health Ministry, Communications Ministry and Telekom Malaysia confirmed that isolated incidents were handled seriously and immediately as every emergency call involves lives and public well-being.

TM’s technical review confirms that NG MERS 999 is operating normally, including the case channelling procedure using the “nearest available” principle. This ensures the nearest emergency asset can be mobilised as soon as possible.

The MOH will continue to improve field responses by adding ambulances and reorganising staff assignments in strategic areas. Volunteer bodies including the Malaysian Red Crescent Society and St John Ambulance Malaysia are also involved as part of emergency response capabilities.

Continuous assessment on asset coordination and readiness is being done with related agencies. The 999 service via audio calls remains fully functional and can be used normally.

The SaveME999 app functions as an additional channel for users requiring communication via text, video and multimedia. This aligns with efforts to increase effectiveness and comprehensiveness of the country’s emergency response.

TM will continue to improve system capacity and the NG MERS 999 app, including related software and technical processes. These improvements aim to ensure smoother operations and experience for all emergency agencies.

NG MERS 999 began operations on November 16 as the result of strategic partnerships between multiple ministries and emergency agencies. The system was developed to provide faster, more accurate, modern and inclusive emergency services.
