Johor-Singapore SEZ on track, PM urges no politicking

PM Anwar says the Johor-Singapore SEZ is progressing as planned and urges leaders not to politicise the issue for political gain.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) is progressing according to plan and involves close cooperation between the federal and state governments, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said.

“This is a federal government project, naturally in collaboration with the state government. The matter of announcements and signing is between the Prime Minister of Malaysia and the Prime Minister of Singapore,” he told reporters after Friday prayers at Masjid As-Sodiqin, Taman Kobena, here today.

Anwar was responding to Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, who yesterday urged the federal government to expedite the announcement of the JS-SEZ master plan to sustain Johor’s economic growth momentum.

The Prime Minister also reminded political leaders not to politicise matters related to the JS-SEZ, adding that issues raised have already been clarified by the Ministry of Economy.
