PERKESO pays RM1.2 million in first month of LINDUNG 24 Jam

PERKESO has paid over RM1.2 million in benefits under the LINDUNG 24 Jam scheme within its first month, covering 592 claims.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Social Security Organisation (PERKESO) has disbursed over RM1.2 million in benefits to insured persons under its Non-Work-Related Accident Scheme, also known as LINDUNG 24 Jam, within just one month of its implementation.

In a statement today, PERKESO said that 592 claims were received during that same period.

Of the total payouts, the bulk went to implant costs, which accounted for RM1.16 million, followed by Temporary Disablement Benefits amounting to RM99,269.

“On average, nearly 20 cases are recorded daily under LINDUNG 24 Jam, a clear sign that PERKESO is closing the gaps in Malaysia’s social protection coverage. Previously, incidents occurring outside working hours were not covered; with LINDUNG 24 Jam, that has changed.

“Social protection is no longer focused solely on commuting accidents or workplace mishaps. It is now more comprehensive, covering individuals even while they are at home,” the statement read.

PERKESO has clarified that coverage outside working hours for contributors under the Workers’ Social Security Act 1969 (Act 4) is automatic, even before contribution deductions have been implemented.

This, it said, reflects the true importance and role of LINDUNG 24 Jam as a more comprehensive social safety net for Malaysians.

PERKESO reaffirmed its commitment to raising awareness about the scheme so that more people understand its benefits, to ensure no worker is left without protection, even when they are off the clock.

The expanded social security coverage spearheaded by PERKESO includes, among others, the disbursement of Temporary Disablement Benefits, which are payments made to contributors during medical leave when they are unable to work.

Also covered are medical and surgical treatment costs, implant expenses, Permanent Disablement Benefits based on assessments by a panel of doctors, Dependants’ Benefits, Constant Care Allowance, as well as rehabilitation services at PERKESO’s recovery centres.
