Remysta confident PH can capture Moyog in 12-cornered contest

PH candidate says strong grassroots response boosts his chances of unseating Warisan incumbent in Moyog.

PENAMPANG: Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate Remysta Jimmy Taylor, who is contesting in Moyog in the 17th Sabah State Election, does not consider any of the 11 contenders vying for the seat as tough competitors.

Remysta, 37, said the positive feedback received since the campaign started last Saturday indicated that young candidates and new faces did not face major challenges in gaining voter support.

“I don’t think there are any (main competitors),” he told the media after a walkabout at Tamu Desa Babagon here today, which was also attended by PKR vice-president Datuk Seri R. Ramanan.

Remysta expressed confidence in PH’s ability to win the seat from incumbent Datuk Ignatius Darell Leiking, of Parti Warisan (Warisan).

“Every village that the PH machinery and I went to, we were received with overwhelming support. The constituents, including the youth, welcomed us warmly,” he said.

When asked about his plans to support small traders and strengthen the local economy in Moyog, Remysta said most residents rely on local resources such as hill padi cultivation, community-based tourism and homestay operations.

In this regard, he plans to develop a more organised and systematic tourism hub that can create new income-generating opportunities for residents in the constituency.

Remysta said he would introduce a comprehensive resolution aimed at improving local economic opportunities and strengthening community development, to be unveiled during the Remysta HARAPAN Mega Concert on Nov 25 at Buhavan Square, Pekan Donggongon.

He invited constituents in Moyog to attend the event, to be held from 8 pm to 10 pm. It will be hosted by rapper Altimet, who is the Lembah Jaya Assemblyman, with a performance by the band Atmosfera.

Another event, Gema Suara Harapan, will be held on Nov 27 at Dewan Gawir, Kampung Madsian, featuring a performance by local artist Datuk Francis Landong.

Moyog, which has 31,084 registered voters, is one of the two state constituencies in Penampang. The other is Kapayan.

According to the Election Commission (EC), a total of 1,784,843 voters are eligible to vote in this state election. They comprise 1,760,417 ordinary voters, 11,697 military personnel and their spouses, and 12,729 police personnel and their spouses.
