A Malaysian woman’s viral Threads post about half-consumed drinks in an office fridge has sparked debate over hygiene, workplace etiquette and food safety.
AN office pantry is meant to be a shared space where employees can conveniently store their meals and drinks, but it also relies on everyone practising basic hygiene and consideration.
A Malaysian woman recently shared her frustration over her office refrigerator being filled with half-consumed drinks, raising concerns about hygiene and workplace etiquette.
“If this happened in my house, I would have tossed all of these out,” she said in a Threads post.
An image attached to the post showed multiple boxed drinks, seemingly half-consumed, placed next to one another in the office refrigerator with their straws exposed.
Replying to a commenter, the woman also claimed her colleagues have a background in science, which left her baffled as to why they would leave their half-finished drinks in that manner.
Many users related to the viral post, sharing the woman’s disgust at the habit and pointing to the lack of cleanliness and potential health risks. Others shared their own strict rules when it came to using a communal office refrigerator.
“Gross. Cross-contamination. I, as a microbiologist, would overthink about the straws being mixed up together. It’s already bad enough that a refrigerator is an easy breeding ground for bacteria,” one user said.
“My office rule states that any unfinished packaged food and drinks will be thrown away after 5pm,” another shared.
