Nissan Australia has pulled the covers off the next-generation Navara, marking a major update to one of the brand’s most recognisable nameplates. Set to reach showrooms in Australia and New Zealand by the end of the first quarter of 2026, the new model continues the legacy of a pickup that has earned the trust of around half a million buyers since the very first Navara appeared in 1986.
Nissan says the latest generation carries forward the spirit of its predecessors with a tougher design, a new turbodiesel engine and driving dynamics specifically tuned for the demanding roads of Oceania.
The exterior takes clear cues from Nissan’s long pickup heritage. A prominent V-motion grille sets the tone at the front, matched by a set of C-shaped headlamps that blend cleanly into the bodywork for a modern and assertive look. Three distinct intake openings framed in orange sit below, a deliberate nod to the original Navara and a reminder of the model’s workhorse roots.
While the design is rugged, the cabin adopts a more refined approach. The interior has been arranged to feel roomy and accommodating, with a 7-inch colour TFT display for the instrument cluster and a new 9-inch infotainment system that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto fitted as standard.
Beneath the bonnet lies a 2.4-litre turbodiesel engine that delivers 204PS and 470Nm. It is paired with a six-speed automatic gearbox and is designed to offer the pulling power needed for heavy workloads while maintaining efficient fuel consumption, recorded at 7.7 L/100 km under WLTC testing. Nissan has also introduced electric power steering to the new Navara, a change aimed at improving low-speed manoeuvrability and sharpening steering response on winding roads and rough surfaces.
The four-wheel-drive system has been upgraded to better adapt to varying conditions without driver intervention. It automatically switches between two-wheel and four-wheel drive depending on the situation, favouring efficiency on highways and improved traction when towing or traversing demanding terrain.
Every variant now comes with an electronically controlled differential lock, and the suspension has been retuned specifically for Australian and New Zealand road conditions to provide consistent stability whether on tarmac, gravel or unpaved tracks.
Nissan has also expanded the Navara’s safety and driver-assistance technologies. The latest suite includes Intelligent Cruise Control, Lane Departure Warning, an emergency lane-keeping function that assists in steering when the vehicle strays toward danger, and an Intelligent Speed Limiter capable of identifying speed-limit signs and informing the driver accordingly. Together, these systems underline Nissan’s aim to make the new Navara not only more capable but also more reassuring to drive in everyday situations.
With its stronger performance, updated design and a long list of modern safety features, the new Navara is positioned to carry its reputation forward as a reliable companion for both work and adventure across Oceania.
