Kedah police arrest six suspects including three officers for robbing foreign nationals in two separate incidents.

ALOR SETAR: Three police personnel were among six individuals arrested for allegedly robbing foreign nationals in two separate incidents in Kodiang and Alor Setar on June 27 and July 1 respectively.

Kedah police chief Datuk Adzli Abu Shah said that in the June 27 incident, they received a report of a gang robbery at a house in the Padang Sera area in Kodiang.

“The victim and five housemates, all foreign nationals, were approached by five suspects donning police vests who identified themselves as police personnel at about 12.20 am.

“The suspects entered the house and ordered all the victims to hand over their mobile phones. They also took RM1,750 in cash before leaving the house,” he told a media conference at the Kedah Police Headquarters today.

He said members of the Voluntary Patrol Scheme (SRS) in the area detained all the suspects after noticing their suspicious behaviour before contacting the police at the Kubang Pasu District Police Headquarters.

“Further investigations found that two of the suspects were police personnel attached to a police station in Perlis, while the other three were civilians. One of the suspects has two previous criminal and drug-related records.

“Investigations also revealed that all the suspects were involved in two other robbery cases reported in the Kodiang area. The case is being investigated under Section 395 of the Penal Code,” he said.

Meanwhile, Adzli said that in the July 1 incident, a 26-year-old police personnel attached to the Kedah Police Headquarters allegedly stole a pair of gold earrings from a house in Jalan Langgar.

“The suspect had gone to the home of a Rohingya family at about 1.40 pm and introduced himself as a policeman. The suspect then asked the victim to hand over the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) cards belonging to the victim, his wife and their three children.

“The suspect also seized the victim’s mobile phone before removing a pair of gold earrings from the victim’s wife’s ears. The suspect then returned their UNHCR card and the victim’s mobile phone before leaving on his motorcycle,” he said.

He said that based on intelligence gathered, the suspect was arrested the following day and police recovered items believed to have been stolen and used during the incident.

“Further investigations found that the suspect was also involved in an incident reported on June 30 in the Derga Jaya Police Housing area. The case is being investigated under Section 392 of the Penal Code,” he added.
