Ahmad Zahid calls for alertness in flood-prone areas as monsoon brings heavy rain to Kelantan, Terengganu, Sarawak and Sabah until March 2026
KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has urged residents in flood-prone areas to remain vigilant during the ongoing Northeast Monsoon.
The National Disaster Management Committee chairman advised the public to monitor weather alerts closely and follow authorities’ instructions throughout the monsoon season.
He said the monsoon period is expected to persist until March 2026 with several episodes of continuous heavy rainfall forecast across various states.
“Early preparedness is crucial to safeguard families and property,” Ahmad Zahid stated in a Facebook post.
He assured that the government through NADMA, MetMalaysia and all rescue agencies will maintain the highest readiness level throughout this monsoon season.
According to an infographic shared in his post, heavy rain episodes are expected to affect Kelantan and Terengganu throughout this month.
Similar conditions are forecast for Kelantan, Sarawak, Sabah and Terengganu next month.
To date, one temporary evacuation centre has been opened in Bachok, Kelantan following flooding triggered by continuous heavy rain since yesterday. – Bernama
