A husband raises privacy concerns after spotting a CCTV camera visible through a gap above the accessible PwD toilet at Rawang northbound R&R, leaving him and his wife uneasy
A HUSBAND has raised privacy concerns after spotting a CCTV camera visible through a gap above the accessible Persons with Disabilities (PwD) toilet at the Rawang northbound Rest and Service Area (R&R), saying the layout left him and his wife feeling uncomfortable.
The man said he was assisting his wife, who is a person with disabilities, when they noticed the camera through the opening above the toilet wall.
Although the CCTV camera was not pointed directly into the toilet cubicle, its visibility was enough to make them uneasy.
Sharing the incident on Threads, the man explained that the camera appeared to be facing the area outside the toilet rather than its interior.
“The CCTV is directed elsewhere. However, when someone is using the OKU toilet at the Rawang (northbound) R&R, the CCTV camera is clearly visible through the gap above the toilet,” he wrote.
While acknowledging that the camera was intended to monitor the surrounding area, he said the open space above the wall raised concerns about users’ privacy.
“Although the camera is angled outside, the privacy boundary seems incomplete because the wall is open at the top. I hope the R&R management can close the gap. Thank you,” he added.
The man also urged PLUS Malaysia to look into the matter to ensure users of the accessible toilet feel safe and their privacy is adequately protected.
