Government monitors monsoon daily to ensure public safety

Chief Secretary says 11,009 flood victims housed in relief centres as over 100,000 personnel deployed across seven affected states

PUTRAJAYA: The Northeast Monsoon situation is being monitored daily to ensure public safety at all times, according to Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar.

He visited the National Disaster Management Agency team at the National Disaster Command Centre in Pulau Meranti today for a disaster management briefing.

“I was informed that 11,009 victims from 3,839 families have been placed in temporary relief centres, involving 14 districts in seven states,” he said in a social media post.

The mobilisation of over 100,000 personnel and assets from multiple agencies has been activated at operations locations to ensure readiness for aid and rescue.

Shamsul Azri stressed that priority should be given to students sitting for Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia examinations in affected areas.

He emphasized ensuring they can continue examinations in a safe and proper environment.

Seven states are affected by floods: Penang, Perlis, Perak, Kedah, Terengganu, Selangor and Kelantan.

Kelantan recorded the highest number of evacuees with 10,922 people housed across 33 relief centres as of 8 am today.

The Northeast Monsoon season began on November 13 and is expected to continue until March 2026. – Bernama
