Three suspected robbers shot dead after slashing policeman in Melaka

Three suspected criminals from Geng Durian Tunggal shot dead after slashing policeman during robbery attempt in Melaka oil palm plantation

MELAKA: Three suspected criminals were shot dead after one slashed a policeman with a machete during an early morning confrontation at an oil palm plantation.

The incident occurred around 4.30 am in Durian Tunggal, Alor Gajah, when police personnel encountered the suspects during Op Casa Melaka operations.

Melaka police chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said the suspects were allegedly en route to rob a premises when they encountered the police team.

“When police tried to apprehend them, one of them acted aggressively by slashing one of the policemen with a machete, injuring him on his left arm,” he told a media conference.

Dzulkhairi stated police had no choice but to open fire in self-defence, resulting in all three suspects being fatally shot.

The injured police corporal, in his 30s, is receiving treatment at Melaka Hospital for his arm wound.

Two identified suspects were aged 24 and 29, while the third remains unidentified with no documentation found.

All three belonged to Geng Durian Tunggal, a criminal gang active since 2024 with 22 recorded cases across three states.

The gang’s criminal activities have caused total losses estimated at RM1.35 million.

The 29-year-old suspect had 39 previous crime and drug records, while the 24-year-old had 12 similar cases.

Their modus operandi involved parking vehicles in plantations before walking to rob houses, shops and factories.

Police seized three machetes, a grille cutter, three face masks and three pairs of gloves at the scene.

Op Casa Melaka was initiated last month following a significant increase in robbery cases throughout the state. – Bernama
