Over 12,000 police personnel deployed for Sabah state election

Sabah police deploy 12,000+ personnel for state election, with 1,200 reinforcements from Sarawak and Bukit Aman ensuring security.

KOTA KINABALU: More than 12,000 police personnel will be deployed for polling-day duty in the 17th Sabah State Election on Saturday, said Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun.

He said all the necessary preparations have been carried out, including discussions with the Election Commission.

“Alhamdulillah, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) is fully prepared to provide the best service in maintaining safety and public order.

“That is why early voting is conducted — to allow all PDRM personnel to carry out their responsibilities to ensure smooth, orderly and safe polling on Nov 29,” he said today.

Earlier, Jauteh cast his ballot at the Senior Officers’ Mess of the Sabah Contingent Police Headquarters at 8.48 am.

Jauteh said Sabah police have been reinforced by more than 1,200 personnel from Sarawak and Bukit Aman to ensure smooth and safe polling this Saturday.

He also said all campaign activities have been running smoothly, and thanked all parties involved for their cooperation and compliance with the rules and procedures set.

He said that although 85 police reports have been received, the offences reported involved only common issues that did not affect the overall conduct of the election campaign.

“The offences reported include misuse of social media, alleged vandalism, and damage to posters and flags. Of the 85 police reports received, PDRM has opened 53 investigation papers.

“In addition, 7,288 permits have been issued to all parties involved in the state election campaign as of midnight last night. So there have been no issues or complaints regarding obtaining campaign permits,” he said.

The early voting today involved 24,426 electors comprising police and military personnel and their spouses.
