SPM exams proceed nationwide despite flood disruptions in eight states

SPM written exams proceed as scheduled despite flood disruptions affecting candidates in eight states, with relocation and transport arrangements in place.

KUALA LUMPUR: The 2025 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia written examination commenced nationwide today despite ongoing flood disruptions in eight states.

Education Ministry preparedness measures including Ops Payung ensured 413,372 candidates could sit for exams at 3,350 centres across the country.

In the capital, 21,585 candidates began their exams at 165 centres.

Flooding affected five examination centres in Perlis, requiring Civil Defence Force lorries to transport exam papers, invigilators and affected candidates.

State Education Director Rose Aza Che Arifin confirmed 3,754 candidates are sitting for SPM across 36 centres in Perlis.

Kelantan reported 100 of its 27,361 candidates affected by floods, with students relocated to alternative centres and transported by military truck.

Perak education director Zulkafli Mohamed Mokhtar said 167 of 31,704 candidates were impacted by floods and landslides.

Twenty students from SM Tahfiz Darul Ridzuan in Pangkor were moved to an alternative centre after their school was declared unsafe.

Selangor reported 118 candidates disrupted by floods and another 11 affected by landslides across the state.

Three schools were flooded while seven were converted into temporary relief centres in Selangor.

A total of 75,489 candidates are sitting for SPM across 502 centres in Selangor.

Kedah relocated approximately 90 flood-affected candidates to school hostels to ensure they didn’t miss exams.

Seventeen students taking Visual Arts Paper 1 at SMK Jitra were relocated to SMK Tanjung Pauh due to rising floodwaters.

State Education director Abdul Rahim Mat said 30,001 candidates sat for exams while 79 centres with 921 candidates were identified as flood-risk schools.

Penang reported only two candidates affected by floods, currently sheltered at a relief centre and will sit exams at SMK Pokok Sena.

A total of 20,060 candidates are registered for SPM in Penang.

Pahang education director Ahmad Zamri Md Isa confirmed 21,048 candidates sitting exams at 267 centres.

He noted 2,400 candidates have been identified as at risk of flood disruption based on past records.

Negeri Sembilan reported 17,354 candidates including two mature candidates aged 60 and 57, plus 42 pairs of twins.

The state also has two sets of triplets and 64 special-needs candidates sitting for SPM.

Melaka confirmed 13,358 candidates began written exams including 83 special-needs candidates and four hospitalised students.

Terengganu, Sarawak and Johor education directors confirmed no exam centres had been affected by flooding.

However, 33 examination centres in Terengganu have been identified as being at risk based on flooding incident records.

Terengganu has 19,595 candidates while Sarawak has 36,843 and Johor has 49,654 candidates.

The Johor government is providing free meals to all candidates through district education offices and schools.
