Sarawak to host Borneo Animation and Gaming Festival in August

Sarawak aims to become a regional animation and digital game hub with the Borneo Animation and Gaming Festival, targeting global industry players

KUCHING: Sarawak is positioning itself as a regional hub for animation and digital gaming with the upcoming Borneo Animation and Gaming Festival next August.

Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo announced the festival aims to unite industry experts, digital content developers and the creative community.

The BAGF will focus on ASEAN participation while attracting global industry players to Malaysia.

Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has agreed to establish a joint committee for programme implementation.

This committee will include representatives from the state government, Digital Ministry and Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation.

Gobind revealed these details after his courtesy call on Abang Johari at the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly.

Deputy Digital Minister Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong also attended the meeting.

Discussions included Sarawak’s commitment to the national digitalisation agenda under Artificial Intelligence Nation 2030.

The five-day festival expects to gather approximately 300 industry delegates and feature over 200 exhibitors.

Major global industry players including Walt Disney, DreamWorks and Netflix are targeted for participation.

Konami, Nintendo and Sony Pictures Animation are also among the targeted participants. – Bernama
