Former PM’s aide Shamsul Iskandar lodges a police report against businessman Albert Tei for allegedly conspiring to smear the Prime Minister’s image.
KUALA LUMPUR: Former Senior Political Secretary to the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin, has lodged a police report against businessman Albert Tei.
He filed the report in Gum Gum, Sabah, following Tei’s allegations that he received instructions from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to record conversations involving several Sabah politicians.
Shamsul Iskandar described the claims as a malicious conspiracy to tarnish the Prime Minister’s image.
He stated this was a coordinated effort to bring down the government undemocratically, especially during the Sabah election campaign period.
He affirmed he would not allow anyone to misuse his name or former position to undermine the government.
Shamsul Iskandar expressed confidence that police would begin investigations immediately.
He also confirmed his readiness to cooperate with any enforcement agency, including the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.
MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said investigators would soon call both Tei and Shamsul Iskandar to record their statements.
The issue surfaced after former Economy Minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli urged the Prime Minister to take action over a letter of support issued by one of Anwar’s political secretaries.
Shamsul Iskandar had announced his resignation yesterday.
