Malaysian employer claims staff faked parents’ death and family illness to skip work, sparking debate.
EVERY worker is entitled to their leaves, whatever the reason may be but it should not be done in a dishonest fashion as it can cause trust issues in the future.
A post by a Malaysian employer on Threads has sparked discussion online after she alleged that several of her staff members fabricated stories about family emergencies to secure time off.
In her post, the employer included screenshots of conversations with three employees, whom she labelled as ‘Staff 1’, ‘Staff 2’ and ‘Staff 3’.

Regarding Staff 1, the employer claimed that the employee lied about their parents having died in an accident.
“Who would be foolish enough to use such an excuse about their parents getting into an accident — and even worse, passing away — while they were actually hanging out at Uptown?” she wrote.
As for the second and third workers, they had allegedly lied about a hospitalised brother and an ill grandfather, respectively.
Netizens were shocked by the employees’ reasons for not clocking in and advised the woman to terminate their employment.
“It is surprising that these workers are willing to come up with such lies. Some of us are scared to even use such excuses to avoid work — they will definitely regret this,” one netizen warned.
“Hire more staff. Once the new employees understand the workflow, terminate the problematic ones,” another commenter suggested.
One user also recommended introducing an attendance allowance to encourage better staff attendance.
