Flood evacuee numbers rise in three states as six others improve

Flood situation worsens in Perak, Pahang and Selangor with rising evacuee numbers, while six other states show improvement as people return home

KUALA LUMPUR: Flood evacuee numbers have climbed in Perak, Pahang and Selangor this morning while conditions improved in six other states.

In Perak, evacuees increased to 6,420 people from 1,917 families compared to 6,375 from 1,973 families the previous night.

The state disaster committee reported Hilir Perak district recorded the highest number at 1,961 people, followed by Perak Tengah with 1,254 evacuees.

Pahang saw numbers rise to 1,390 people from 468 families, up from 1,272 people across 37 relief centres in six districts.

Several rivers in Pahang have exceeded danger levels including Sungai Pahang at Kuala Tembeling measuring 53.09 metres.

Selangor’s evacuee count increased slightly to 3,646 people from 1,042 families housed in 35 relief centres across five districts.

Terengganu showed improvement with evacuees dropping to 5,856 people from 1,719 families as weather conditions improved.

Kuala Terengganu recorded the highest number in the state with 1,507 evacuees, followed by Marang with 1,162 people.

Kelantan’s numbers decreased to 1,850 people from 715 families with eight relief centres remaining operational.

Sungai Golok in Rantau Panjang exceeded the danger level at 9.70 metres while other major rivers reached warning levels.

Kedah’s evacuee count fell to 1,072 people from 312 families, down significantly from 1,817 people the previous night.

Perlis saw numbers drop to 4,266 evacuees from last night’s figure of 4,635 people across 18 relief centres.

Negeri Sembilan recorded 253 evacuees from 98 families housed in three relief centres in coastal districts.

Melaka’s numbers remained unchanged at 62 people from 16 families sheltered across three locations.
