Malaysia’s KASIH Kanak-Kanak programme sets national record for child protection

The KASIH Kanak-Kanak programme is recognised as Malaysia’s largest child protection advocacy effort, reaching over 128,000 children nationwide

LUNDU: The KASIH Kanak-kanak programme has been recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records as the nation’s largest child protection advocacy programme.

The initiative by the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development (KPWKM) recorded participation from 128,148 children across the country.

Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said the programme was implemented through the Department of Child Development and the Department of Social Welfare.

It was conducted in 564 schools and 46 children’s activity centres nationwide, benefiting 71,213 children.

“In Sarawak, the programme was conducted in 71 schools and eight activity centres, directly reaching 14,895 participants,” she said.

Nancy stated the initiative encourages the community to act as the ‘eyes and ears’ of society by reporting child abuse cases.

She urged the public to use the Talian Kasih 15999 helpline to ensure every child can grow up in a safer environment.

The minister was speaking at the closing ceremony of the Children’s Day Carnival in Kampung Sempadi here today.

Nancy added that the ministry recently launched the National Action Plan on Child’s Policy (2026-2030).

The plan outlines 141 actions under four policy objectives and strategic priorities to strengthen child protection and development.

“Through the 2025 ASEAN ICT Forum on Child Online Protection, Malaysia reaffirmed its commitment to regional efforts on child digital safety,” she said.

This commitment aligns with the goals of the ASEAN Digital Masterplan 2025.

“The children here today represent the nation’s future, and their voices reflect the hopes of a more caring and progressive Malaysia,” Nancy said.

At the event, she also announced an allocation of RM500,000 for upgrading the rural access road on Jalan Sampadi.

Another upgrade project near a local mosque has been completed with an allocation of RM320,000. – Bernama
