Padang Serai MP pleads not guilty to abetting RM400,000 cattle farm graft

Padang Serai MP Datuk Azman Nasrudin denies abetting a RM400,000 bribe for a Kedah cattle farming project, with bail set at RM75,000

SHAH ALAM: SHAH ALAM: Padang Serai Member of Parliament Datuk Azman Nasrudin pleaded not guilty to an abetment charge in a RM400,000 corruption case.

The charge relates to a joint-venture beef cattle farming project with Kedah Agro Holding Berhad (KAHB) five years ago.

Azman is accused of abetting businessman Amar Assuat Abu Bakar in accepting the bribe from Mohd Hassanaim Fauzi.

The payment was allegedly a reward for helping Mohd Hassanaim secure the project at Ladang Fidlot Kedah Agro in Kubang Pasu.

The offence was allegedly committed on June 23, 2020, on a roadside in Bandar Baru Bangi, Selangor.

He was charged under Section 28(1)(c) of the MACC Act 2009, read with Section 16(a)(A).

If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in jail and a fine of at least five times the bribe amount or RM10,000.

Deputy public prosecutor Muaz Ahmad Khairuddin proposed bail of RM100,000 and the surrender of Azman’s passport.

Defence lawyer N. Surendran objected, arguing the 53-year-old MP was not a flight risk due to his parliamentary duties and family.

Judge Datuk Mohd Nasir Nordin set bail at RM75,000 with one surety and ordered the passport surrendered.

The case is set for re-mention on Jan 13, 2026, with the defence intending to file a striking-out application.

In a separate proceeding, businessman Amar Assuat also pleaded not guilty to two charges of soliciting and receiving the same RM400,000 bribe.

He was granted bail of RM75,000 and must report monthly to the MACC while his passport is held by the court.

His case is also set for mention on Jan 13, 2026.
