National 5-a-side hockey teams storm into SEA Games semi-finals

Malaysia’s men’s and women’s 5-a-side hockey teams both top their groups with big wins, advancing to the SEA Games semi-finals in Bangkok.

MALAYSIA’s men’s 5-a-side hockey team thrashed Thailand 9-1 to seal top spot in Group A at the 2025 SEA Games.

The emphatic victory at the Royal Thai Air Force Stadium secured their place in the semi-finals, where they will face the Philippines.

Kamarulzaman Kamaruddin, Akhimullah Anuar Esook and Abid Sufian Mat Ruslee each scored twice in the dominant display.

Muhibuddin Moharam, Syarman Mat Tee and Shafiq Ikhmal Suzaini added the other goals.

Team coach Wan Mohd Roslan Wan Abd Rahman praised his players’ clinical finishing against the host nation.

“Every opportunity they had, they scored,” he said after the match.

He added that the win makes their path smoother for the semi-final and final.

The women’s team also topped Group A after two commanding victories on the same day.

They began by demolishing the Philippines 13-0 in their morning match.

They followed that with a 7-2 win over Thailand in the afternoon session.
