Melaka DOE issued RM14,400 in fines to 14 vehicles for emissions and noise violations, with three banned from roads for excessive black smoke.
MELAKA: The state’s Department of Environment (DOE) issued 14 compounds totalling RM14,400 to vehicles for various offences during a five-day enforcement operation.
The operations from December 8 were held in conjunction with World Ozone Day 2025.
State DOE director Rosli Mustafa said six compounds were issued under the Environmental Quality (Control of Emissions from Diesel Engines) Regulations 1996, each amounting to RM2,000.
A further eight compounds were issued under the Environmental Quality (Motor Vehicle Noise) Regulations 1987, each with a fine of RM300.
“Three prohibition orders were issued under Section 48A of the Environmental Quality Act 1974 against three vehicles with smoke density readings exceeding 70% or emitting excessive black smoke,” Rosli said in a statement.
He added that these vehicles are not allowed to operate on the roads until repaired and re-inspected.
In addition, 19 vehicles were ordered to undergo testing, with 11 having smoke density readings above 70% and eight having excessively noisy engines.
A total of 286 vehicles were inspected during the joint operation involving multiple agencies, resulting in 36 enforcement actions.
Rosli also noted that two workshops providing maintenance services for cooling and air-conditioning systems were inspected under refrigerant management regulations.
Two Fleet Operator premises and one vehicle rest station were also checked under emissions and scheduled waste regulations.
Following these inspections, one Fleet Operator premises and the vehicle rest station were issued with notices under Sections 31 and 37.
A compound was also issued under the Environmental Quality (Scheduled Wastes) Regulations 2005.
