A fallen third-party wooden structure damages overhead power lines, halting KTM Komuter and ETS services between Bangi and Seremban stations
KUALA LUMPUR: KTM Komuter Klang Valley and Electric Train Service (ETS) operations were disrupted today after a wooden structure from a third-party construction site fell onto the railway tracks near Batang Benar, damaging the overhead power system.
In a statement, Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) said the structure struck the overhead line system between Batang Benar and Labu stations, disrupting the power supply and affecting train operations.
As a result, KTM Komuter services from Pulau Sebang towards KL Sentral are terminating at Seremban Station, while services heading to KL Sentral or Batu Caves are operating only from Bangi Station.
“There are currently no KTM Komuter services operating between Bangi and Seremban stations. Affected passengers are advised to use alternative modes of transportation to continue their journeys,” the statement said.
To assist affected commuters, KTMB has deployed three shuttle buses operating between Seremban, Tiroi, Batang Benar, Labu and Bangi stations.
For ETS passengers, KTMB has also arranged seven shuttle buses at KL Sentral, Bandar Tasik Selatan, Kajang and Seremban stations.
“ETS passengers who choose not to continue their journey from their departure station are entitled to a full refund,” read the statement.
KTMB said its preliminary investigation found that the Public Works Department (JKR) contractor carrying out the wayleave project had failed to comply with the required safety procedures.
It said the contractor did not submit a complete work schedule and failed to notify KTMB of the actual timing of the bridge construction works carried out on the day of the incident.
“Under the Site Entry Permit Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), three KTMB technical representatives – from the Regional Engineer, Signalling and Communications, and Electrification departments – must be present on-site for monitoring once full approval has been granted and all required documentation has been submitted,” the statement said.
KTMB added that its technical team is working to repair the damaged overhead line system to restore train services as quickly as possible.
“KTMB apologises for the inconvenience caused by this unforeseen incident. The safety of passengers and train operations remain our highest priority,” it said.
Passengers are advised to check KTMB’s official social media platforms or consult station staff for the latest service updates.
