Arthur Joseph Kurup outlines forest conservation, water management and climate resilience as key priorities for natural resources ministry.
PUTRAJAYA: Forest and biodiversity conservation, water resource management and strengthening climate resilience are among the top priorities for the new Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability.
Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup said the development of a green economy and sustainability-based jobs would continue to be driven for public well-being.
“I am committed to working closely with all ministry personnel, implementing agencies, non-governmental organisations, academia and the private sector to ensure that every policy and initiative can be implemented effectively and deliver tangible impact to the people and the environment,” he said.
Arthur stated that in an era of climate change and resource depletion, natural resource management must be strengthened through science-based policies and transparent governance.
“The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability holds a strategic role in balancing the needs of national development with environmental conservation,” he added.
His appointment was announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in the latest Cabinet reshuffle.
Arthur fills the portfolio previously held by Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.
He brings extensive experience from several strategic ministries since 2020, alongside his prior role as Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Security. – Bernama
