Malaysian badminton pairs Tang Jie-Ee Wei and Pearly-Thinaah reach BWF semis

Malaysian mixed doubles Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei and women’s doubles Pearly Tan-M Thinaah advance to the BWF World Tour semi-finals

NATIONAL mixed doubles pair Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei have advanced to the semi-finals of the Badminton World Federation World Tour Championship.

The world champions secured their spot after a comeback victory over Indonesia’s Jafar Hidayatullah and Felisha Pasaribu in their second Group B match.

They lost the first set 17-21 but recovered to win the next two 21-14 and 21-15.

This marked their second consecutive win, having defeated compatriots Goh Soon Huat and Shevon Lai Jemie the previous day.

Tang Jie and Ee Wei will face China’s Feng Yang Zhe and Huang Dong Ping in their final Group A match tomorrow.

National women’s doubles pair Pearly Tan and M Thinaah also booked their semi-final place with a second straight win.

They defeated Japan’s Rin Iwanaga and Kie Nakanishi in straight sets, 21-13 and 21-18, in a 52-minute Group A match.

The pair, fresh from winning gold at the recent Thailand Sea Games, will complete their group action against Japan’s Yuki Fukushima and Mayu Matsumoto tomorrow. – Bernama
